5000+ minutes streamed, comments & reviews

Here’s a few updates:

Will Reading has now streamed over 5000 minutes on Amazon Prime Video! It’s right here, ready to be watched – and we sure could use a five star review! We’ve been stuck at 12 reviews for a while now.

And speaking of reviews, we’ve received a few reviews in the way of comments on YouTube at the movie’s trailer:

stoner comedy, recreational marijuana

So, yeah, this is a thing that is starting to happen for some reason. Why? I couldn’t say. Will Reading includes no cannabis use or even references. Now if that’s what you’re looking for, check out Harold & Kumar, Half Baked, Pineapple Express, How High, Cheech and Chong and so forth… and watch Will Reading, too! But is it a stoner comedy? I… I don’t think it meets the criteria, but who am I to judge? Maybe Will Reading is to a stoner comedy as red wine is to chocolate – meaning, Will Reading pairs well with recreational marijuana. Could be! Maybe someone could do some research for us and let us know the results!

If you’ve seen the movie and have a second, please drop us a five star review on Amazon! It’d really help us out by upping our visibility in Amazon’s search results. Just click here, scroll down and drop us a few words:

See? One word will do! So if you have a change, please drop us a five star review. Thanks!

Drop us a Review!

As you may know,  Will Reading is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video! It’s a very exciting time – and, it’s kind of bizarre to go to Amazon and see the movie in search results with big budget Hollywood movies. But the thing is, it’s generally buried, found pages and pages deep in Amazon’s search results.

We’ve been working on the movie for so long, it’d be nice to think of this stage of digital distribution as the last step, but it’s not. We’re trying to get the word out, and it’s not easy. But there is a way YOU CAN HELP!

One of the easiest ways to help the Amazon algorithm help other users find the movie is by writing a five star review, which you can do here. It’s easy to see that lots of people have watched the movie (Nearly 3500 minutes streamed so far!), but not everybody has been able to write a review. If we could get half of the folks that watched the movie to give us a five star review, we’d probably have around 20 reviews.

MATH: The thinking here is with 3500 minutes streamed DIVIDED BY 80 minutes (the 1 hr, 20 minute running time of Will Reading) equals 43.75 views – assuming people watched the entire movie and saw the post credits scene. (FUN FACT: The post credits scene has always been in the script, all the way back to first 2013 version of the script.)

As you can see at the review above, a review doesn’t have to be long – even a single word will do.

Oh! “Not everybody has been able to write a review.” This is true. Sure, some people watch the movie at night, so when it’s over they’re ready for bed, no time to write a review. Hopefully, they’ll get to it eventually. But other people who are to close to me have been blocked from writing a review. Makes sense – they’re biased, the system knows we’re connected, I get it. I, of course, can’t write one either.

But maybe you can! If you have a minute to spare, write us a review here and soon, your reviews and others like it will propel it up the charts so when folks look for something to watch on Amazon, Will Reading comes up.

If you’re jazzed to help us, another thing you can do while you’re on Amazon is to add it to your watch list. Every little bit helps! And if you’re on social media and you don’t mind telling your friends/followers about your Will Reading experience, that’d be great, too! Here’s a helpful image we’ve been using to market the movie.

Thanks to everyone for helping us get the word out about Will Reading! We’re so happy to have the movie available for everyone to see and we appreciate your help in making the digital distribution a success!

Will Reading – a new cut

After the Premiere screening of Will Reading in June of 2017, I had some second thoughts about the movie – especially the opening 20 or so minutes.  I’d watched the movie several times at home with friends and family, but it wasn’t until I saw the movie on the big screen with a crowd that certain elements hit me in a way I’d never felt before.  I knew I had to make a change.

It took me a while to come with a fix, but I finally did and this past October, we started production back up and filmed a new scene.  I’m getting close to finishing the rough cut and I’m simultaneously working on a 5.1 audio mix, so hopefully, I’ll have this done soon.

I’ll keep you posted!  HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

a discarded production idea for Will Reading

will-reading-liscence-plates.png

Any time you make a movie, you’re going to have ideas that just don’t make it into the flick.  Such were the custom license plates I came up with for the characters Wayne (Bad Guy) and Wendy (Vegan 1 – just barely a reference to Ghostbusters).  I had a few different ideas on how to accomplish this, but digital replacement seemed like the way to go… but I ultimately decided it wasn’t worth the time and effort.

And so, the idea ended up on the proverbial cutting room floor.

Will Reading – the movie is DONE!!! (updated #12)

Will Reading is a movie I started writing on May 30th of 2013.  The third draft of the script was finished in the spring of 2014 after which I started casting and other pre  production tasks.  We had a table read in August of 2014 and went into full production mode, which lasted for… I dunno, until around June 2015 and everything I shot after that was called post production pickups.  I had already started editing some of the more challenging sequences while we were shooting, but editing didn’t begin in earnest until after shooting ended and really picked up steam in January of 2016.

And now it’s done.

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again:  I’m so very grateful and proud of everyone that worked on the movie and that the result we achieved have exceeded my wildest expectations!

If you check out the Will Reading link, you can follow along on my production diary.

Stay tuned to this website and the movie’s Facebook page for updates on when and where you can see the movie!

Will Reading – Trailer #2 (updated #11)

Here’s the second (and presumably final) trailer for our movie, Will Reading.   I probably have another two weeks of post production to go and then the movie will finally be one hundred percent complete!   This is a journey that stretches back to 2013 for me, and I can scarcely describe how I feel, so I won’t try.  I will say that I’m very grateful and proud of everyone that worked on the movie and that the result we’ve achieved exceeds my wildest expectations!

Stay tuned to this website and the movie’s Facebook page for updates on when and where you can see the movie!

Here’s a taste of what you’re missing on our Facebook page.

We’re finally on the home stretch, the final leg, the end of principal photography on Will Reading.  I think the hardest bits are behind us and it should be relatively smooth sailing until we finally coast into the port for the final docking.  Boat metaphors.  Continue reading “Will Reading – a movie in production by Saylaco Films (update #8)”

The Prop Table Is taking shape!

Pre Production on Will Reading is about to come to a close. Our little movie’s script has been shaped into a shooting draft, we’ve got a prop list, a shooting schedule… all that good stuff. At this point, I’m just waiting for the last bits of equipment and props to arrive in the mail while I’m putting together storyboards and shot lists for each scene.

Will Reading – a movie in production by Saylaco Films

will-reading-the-movieI’ve been doing movie reviews for a long while, but now, I’m going to put my money where my mouth is (sorta literally) by writing and directing (and, perhaps unwisely, co-starring) in my first feature-length video, Will Reading.  I thought it might be fun to keep a movie production diary now that things are getting started.  Here’s where we are so far.

1st draft is completed (3/19/14)
There’s no movie without a script, and now, after writing on and off for six months or so, the first draft of the script is complete.  Now that I have a feel for the story and the characters, I’ll use the second draft to straighten things out, tighten the bolts on what’s there and add anything that’s missing.  This will most likely only take a week or two.  Then, I’ll print it out and ask for help from Dr. Girlfriend on the third draft…

contacted actor wish list (3/21/14 – 3/24/14)
I have very specific ideas for the performances I’d like to see in each of the roles, so I, in some ways, wrote the story for actors I know.  Hopefully, these folks will be available to/interested in working on this!

one actor signs on  (3/24/14)
So far, I’ve received confirmation from one of the four actors on my list, so… yeah, 25% done here!

ordered the new camera (3/24/14)
I have a camera, and I’ve been amassing equipment for years with the idea of making a feature in mind, but now that it’s actually happening, I’m finally upgrading to a pro camera.  I’ll have to sell a kidney, but that’s life.

That’s about all for now!
